A Community Service Project
Powered by the Learners of Rock Tree Sky
After the Thomas Fire and weeks of smoky air, trapping us indoors, we imagined what the world might be like if the intense weather patterns that gave rise to the fire became the norm. More than ever we feel we have to do our part to keep this from becoming a reality. The learners and mentors at Rock Tree Sky brainstormed and researched. We learned about the giant island of trash in the Pacific Ocean, larger than the state of Texas and killing marine life. We learned about plastic water bottles and the millions that end up in our oceans every year. We have decided to focus our efforts in Ojai where we feel we can make a difference, and reduce the waste produced by single-use plastic water bottles. To encourage people to drink water for free when in town rather than buy bottled water, we want to install water filters on all the drinking fountains in Ojai. We also want to install water-bottle refill stations at locations around Ojai, starting with Libbey Park.
